A Lamp in the Darkness
Have you ever heard a story that changed your life? Or, perhaps the way you see yourself has been shaped, in part, by a story you were told in your youth? What if you later discovered it was all a “crafty myth”? This is what early Christians were faced with when a significant story of their faith was being challenged. In 2 Peter 1:16-21, this fledgling group of believers were given words of assurance that no, the story of the transfiguration was not a “crafty myth” but it can be trusted, and the words found in the scriptures can be trusted. When there is so much noise and conflicting voices, the ground we stand on can feel shaky. What can we hold onto? What is the lamp in the darkness that gives light until the dawn comes? We will explore this in our service today.
