A Call to Action
The little boy in the photo is blowing a shofar; a musical horn made from a ram’s horn. In ancient Israel, a shofar was blown during religious observances, signifying spiritual renewal and the presence of God. It was also used to call warriors to action during battles. In Isaiah 58:1-9a, the prophet isn’t telling us to give up on humility, but to understand that true humility is about focusing on others, particularly those society has marginalized and abused the most. Thus, the call to action. It is for our own good as well as for the good of society. It is for living out our faith in real world ways. Join us today to reflect on our own call to action as followers of Jesus.
